About Mr. Beales: Mr. David Beales is a teacher of classical dance specializing in both the Vaganova classical dance technique and the Vaganova teaching method. He is a well-known teacher and has taught many master classes, workshops, and seminars throughout British Columbia, Venezuela, and Brazil.
Mr. Beales started dancing at the age of six at the Canadian School of Ballet in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. After dancing recreationally, he started professional training with Lissette Salgado, (former Principal Dancer of the Joffrey Ballet, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet), David Lucas, (former Soloist with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet), and David Lahay, (former Principal Dancer with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and Artistic Director Emeritus of Ballet Kelowna). He attended numerous professional summer training programs across Canada, as well as full time with the Professional Division of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. Mr. Beales completed his professional training, graduating from the Goh Ballet Academy, where he successfully completed his Royal Academy of Dancing Advanced 2, and was a member or the Youth Ballet Company for six seasons. Mr. Beales has performed throughout western Canada including the Okanagan, the Kootenays, Banff, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Whistler, and throughout Vancouver Island, as well as in China in Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai.
While training and dancing professionally, Mr. Beales has had the opportunity to work with many highly-respected dance figures including Anna-Marie Holmes, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Vera Solovyeva, (Leningrad State Ballet), Nikolai Levitskiy, (Leningrad State Ballet), Yao Zhu Ping, (National Ballet of China), Jian Nian Chen, (Shanghai Academy of Dance and Beijing Academy of Dance), Stephan Leonard, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Evelyn Hart, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Maina Geilgud, (English National Ballet, Australian Ballet), David Moroni, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Arnold Sphor, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Petru Macra, (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Tatiana Legat, (Repetitur of the Mikhailovsky Ballet) and many others.
After being forced to stop dancing professionally due to an unrelated accident, Mr. Beales chose to continue being involved in classical dance as a teacher, receiving diverse teaching credentials for teaching classical dance using the Vaganova method of teaching, and the Russian technique of classical dance. Mr. Beales’ professors of dance including Prof. Xu Dingzhong (Beijing Academy of Dance), Prof. Ludmilla Kolenchenko (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), Prof. Ludmilla Kovalenko (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), Prof. Natalya Revich (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), Prof. Yevgeniya Michkova (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), Prof. Anastasia Ovdienko (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), Prof. Ludmilla Safronova (Vaganova Ballet Academy), Irina KolpaKova (American Ballet Theatre, Kirov Ballet, Vaganova Ballet Academy), Prof. Elena Sherstneva (Vaganova Ballet Academy), Vladilen Semenov (Russia’s Danseur Noble, ex-director of the Kirov Ballet), Anton Boystov (Kirov Ballet), Ekaterina Shchelkanova (Kirov Ballet, American Ballet Theatre) and others.
Mr. Beales has been teaching Master Classes since 2007 and teaching classical dance in Victoria B.C., Canada since 2010. Mr. Beales is an Associate Member of the Society of Russian Ballet, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance, and a strong advocate of the Pure, Pleasing, Positive ethos at Lighthouse Academy of Dance.
